Who we are

The Nyerere Educational Resource Center is a group of people who seek to support institutions that promote the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania. Mwalimu means "Teacher" in Swahili, and Mwalimu Nyerere was a man of vision and integrity who worked his whole life for his ideals and the betterment of Africa.

We work closely with the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation in Tanzania, the only non-political organization founded by Mwalimu Nyerere during his lifetime. We seek to provide a new home for the Foundation by helping to construct a ambitious new center in the heart of downtown Dar es Salaam.

While the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation is our chief partner and the focus of our work, our support is not limited to the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation. We seek to support all projects that honor Mwalimu Nyerere's legacy.
