Capital Campaign

The Nyerere Educational Resource Center is a 501c(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the United States to support the development of institutions that promote Julius Nyerere’s legacies of peace, democracy, and people-centered development. The $20 million Capital Campaign aims to build and endow the Nyerere Educational Resource Center to honor and promote the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere through education, research, and peace-making. A stunning design by MSAADA Inc. brings African motifs to a world-class library, office space, and conference center that will be the cornerstone for civil society in East Africa.

Mwalimu Nyerere was an educator at heart, and envisioned a nation where families would read together every evening. Education was fundamental to peace and prosperity, and provided each citizen with “basic confidence as a free and equal member of the society.” Education is at the heart of the Nyerere Educational Resource Center. Its activities are designed to provide people with the intellectual and organizational tools to understand the complexities of Africa today.

The Nyerere Center, to be located in the heart of downtown Dar es Salaam, will host the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation and its programs, including the Nyerere Presidential Library, the Policy Research Institute, and the Center for Peace Negotiation.
